When we got our air conditioner I was wondering if we would have a cooler summer, we didn't. And we are entering our warmer months in September and October. Today was one of the warmer days and it was super muggy with monsoon moisture in the air. We didn't get any rain here but the mountains did.
While it was a muggy 95 outside it was a cool 76 inside.

San Diego Maritime Museum
Since it was such a nice day yesterday we wanted to get out and about so we drove down to Little Italy where we had desert and then decided to go down to the bay and walk around the waterfront. I took a few pictures of the boats on display but we didn't feel like going on any tours. Here are a few pics. If you want to learn more about the San Diego Maritime Museum go HERE.

Lamborghini-or-a rise in property values
Last week there was a Lamborghini parked across the street at a neighbors house. I am not sure which is more shocking, that he bought a Lamborghini or that he parked it on the street. I mean at least park it in your driveway. Yes he left it on the street even at night.
This guy moved in about two years ago and works odd hours, I guess he is in IT. He normally has a Jeep Grand Cherokee. I never talked with the guy as he keeps to himself but I talked with a a neighbor and she said he had a "good year"...I guess. That car goes for over $200,000.
Here is where he bought it. Yes I am stalking the car.

Government Shutdown
Wow two posts in one day, how lucky!!
As my readers know, all five, that I work for Uncle Sam. Well the my Uncle is not doing so well and I have been sitting at home since Tuesday afternoon waiting for him to get his S#!& together.
I can only hope that they enact retroactive pay for us, but I'm not counting on it.

Slaters 50/50
Today, every Thursday, is lunch day with the boss and occasionally we try new places. You might have seen this restaurant on the news lately. Slaters is a burger joint and their signature patty is 50% bacon and 50% beef, hence the name Slaters 50/50. The reason they were in the news, is this month they are offering a 100% bacon burger. The patty is all bacon with two strips of bacon, bacon dressing, bacon cheese and an egg. It seems they are trying to kill their customers.
I didn't have the guts to go with the 100% bacon burger but went with the 50/50, American cheese, tomato, onion, lettuce and it was pretty good. We also shared onion rings (in the background), which were not very good in my opinion.
Overall it's not too bad but pretty darn expensive. For both of us it was almost $30. Normally we try to stay under $10.

Annular Eclipse
We didn't get the full eclipse but got around 80+ percent of the eclipse. We were expecting the marine layer and not sure if we could see any of it but thankfully the weather cooperated.
Since we were laying tile most of the day and I actually forgot about it. I was getting ready to take a shower and noticed that it was "dim" outside without any clouds. Aha, it must be the eclipse. Of course I didn't look at the sun, mama didn't raise a fool, but our blinds have many pinholes in them were the cords pass through. Also as the sun passed through the trees we got nice shadows on the walls.
Not sure why they turned out kinda blurry but enjoy!

After the Storm
Saturday and Sunday we had our biggest storm of the season. Not sure exactly how much rain we got, but it was easily over an inch. The big thing was the wind and all day today it was blowing fiercely for San Diego standards. Since we live on the canyon it was even more intense. I would guess that it blew at a steady 30mph with gusts into the 40s.
My main concern was the two eucalyptus trees in the back. But it seems that they held up OK. I have a lot of branches on my back patio and side yard from the eucalyptus trees and the ash tree.
Yesterday and today at sunset there was a nice break and that provided for a few nice shots from our nice new windows.

$5,495 Pair of pants
Yes, believe it or not this was found at Nordstrom yesterday. I will let the pictures speak for themselves. This got me thinking of what I would do with the money instead of buying a pair of ugly pants. I would buy new windows for our house or I could completely remodel all three of my bathrooms. So leave a comment telling me how you would best spend five thousand dollars.

The $6 experiment
Yesterday I tried to turn on my computer and I got 1 long beep and 2 short beeps, then nothing........ I had power to the machine but a blank screen and no boot up sequence. OK no problem, I will just hit the reboot and all will be well. Nope!!!! Crap (actually I said worse stuff than that). I cracked the case to see if there was an obvious problem. As I looked about I checked all connections to ensure that nothing was loose and then I saw one of my fans not working. I then disconnected it and then turned it on and viola the machine came back to life. Problem solved, right? Maybe not!!!
I do not know how long the fan had not been working but I had noticed the machine was running hotter than normal. I thought that maybe it was due to age and dust. Last month I did a semi deep cleaning by removing the CPU heat sink and cleaning all fans and vents. So today I went to Fry's Electronics and bought a case fan for 6 dollars. Now the fun part begins, the power wires were about an inch too short to connect to the mother board. Of course I was saying "mother #@$*@(*". But I wanted to check and make sure the fan would work so I plugged it in to test it. I then booted up the computer and guess what happened? I will tell you what happened, the machine did 1 long beep and 2 short beeps and then nothing. OK, so now I am really not happy.
I called my brother and had him log on and he determined the beep code for the mother board had to do with video memory or RAM. OK, so I pushed and prodded to ensure everything was seated properly and then rebooted. The machine came online, whew!!!
So I could drive back to Fry's, exchange it and look for another fan or figure another way to do this. Necessity is the mother of invention. I started snipping and spliced the old connector to the new fan, hence the $6 experiment. I made it long enough so then I could attach it to the case and plugged it into the board. Now for the big test, I turned on the machine and............ everything worked!
This Machine is over 5 years old and is showing it's age. I don't know how much longer it will work but as long as I backup my system then even if this one crashes I will be able to recover my files. So lesson learned for everyone, if you do not have a backup hard drive then you are flirting with disaster. They are cheap and easy to set up, back up your stuff at lease once a week, daily is better.

This is my backup hard drive. If you don't have one, then get one. This is a Seagate.

Birthday Party/short hike
BIRTHDAY PARTY!!
Last week we had our annual January birthday party since we have many friends who all celebrate their birthdays in the month of January. Each year we celebrate at a different house and this year we celebrated at the condo of one of our friends. Since they live in a condo there is a common kitchen that can be rented out that was large enough for everyone.
The menu consisted of Calamari, Fried Shrimp, Grilled Shrimp,Paella, Tonkatsu, Spanish Omelet, and Ron's homemade carrot cake. The carrot cake was the most interesting because of the shape it ended up. We thought it looked like a football stadium with a retractable roof. Let me know what you think it looks like.
BACKYARD HIKING!!
I had to clean ivy off my back wall so while I was at it I decided to hike down the hill and see what was there. Thankfully no dead bodies but, I did find three old beer kegs. Further down there is a chain link fence, which is probably the property line. I don't think I will take the hike very often because I can hardly walk now. I am so sore!!!!
