%&#@!!@# Tar Paper!!!!

We are now working on the front bedroom and the office flooring. We plan on laying hardwood flooring to match the existing 2" red oak flooring. However finding actually 2" red oak is a challenge.  We want to keep it below $3 a sq ft and we are looking at engineered flooring because it will need to be glued down over concrete. We could go up to 1/2" solid wood but would prefer the engineered.

The front bedroom floor does not need too much prep work but the office is a different story.

There were three layers to remove and we had them tested for asbestos which thankfully came back negative. The first layer was traditional vinyl and the second was some type of vinyl but it had a burlap backing. Both of these came up real easy. The bottom layer was TAR PAPER! So what does that mean? A bitch to remove is what that means. I guess back in the day they used it as a moisture barrier.

We are using a scraper to get the majority off and then will use a chemical stripper to hopefully remove the rest of residue from the concrete. This is important so the glue will stick.

Stay tuned!!!!
