Kitchen Demo

Last weekend we demolished our kitchen. It only took a day and everything went pretty smoothly. Removing the soffits were actually easier than I thought. A friend of ours came over, she is a PhD Professor from Japan doing research associated with SDSU. That's her knocking out the wall. I also got to use my truck for the first time, woohoo, by hauling the debris to the dumpsters.
This weekend we are repairing the holes left from the soffits, I will post later on that.

I bought a TuRD

This weekend I went to the used car tent sale at Qualcomm stadium. Every couple of months local dealers get together and hawk their wares.
I was looking for a '04 or older Tacoma because I did not like the newer body styles. It had to be an extended cab, as a regular cab would be too small and the double cabs cut into the bed too much. Other than that I wasn't too picky. I could live with a 4cyl or V6 and the body did not need to be in perfect shape.
What I found was a SR5 V6 silver TuRD. I call it a TuRD because if you look at the rear quarter panel you will see the TRD (Toyota Racing Development). It is supposed beefed up suspension for off road racing, even though it is a 2WD. Oxymoron huh?
I think I got a good deal on it even though it does have high miles. That was my main concern but I was able to get a 2yr warranty for the price of a 1yr warranty.
I have been wanting a truck for a while and now that we have a house that needs considerable renovation I think it is now the perfect time. We demolished our main kitchen this weekend and I got plenty of use out of the Silver TuRD already. I'll post photos of the demo kitchen in my next post.

Sold the car

So today I sold my Outlook. It was a great car but just too much for two people. Plus I could not fit it into my garage :( So now I plan to get what I have been wanting for a while, a truck. An older truck to be exact. Circa 1998-2004, something that I don't have to worry about door dings, or parking it next to a beater. Actually I want other people to be worried about parking their BMW/Mercedes/Porsche/ ect... next to me..BWAAAHAAAHAAA (EVIL LAUGH).

OK, maybe not that much of an old beater truck but something not brand new. I will keep you posted

Mother's Day

For Mother's day we went to Balboa Park to watch the SDSU choir perform at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion. It was entertaining and a nice way to spend a Sunday evening. I forgot my camera so had to use the cell phone. Not as clear a picture but you can see the architecture of the open air theater.

Happy Mother's day Mom.

Sunset

The last few days has been typical San Diego Weather, mild evenings, low 60s, and beautiful days, mid 70s at the beach and mid 80s inland. We are considered at the beginning of inland so it was around low to mid 80s. Of course it was sunny :)

I took these photos off my back porch, it was even better in person. Even with the problems that southern California has, we are so lucky to be living here. My heart goes out to Santa Barbara and what they are dealing with in the wild fires. The last few years my wife has gone for conferences ( I tagged along) at UCSB www.ucsb.edu and it is lovely. Lord knows we have had our share of them and we will find out later this summer if we will have to deal with it yet again.

What the......?

Ok you have to use your magnifying glass but if you look at the corner above the mirror and just to the left of the Denny's sign you will see the guy pushing the "walk" button. I snapped this just as the light was turning. This guy was definitely getting down and dancing to some music. The problem was that the music was in his head. He didn't have an ipod, radio or anything. Not sure what was bouncing around in his head but it must have been pretty good cause he was putting on a show.

In the land of sunny San Diego why in the hell would you need this? I think he must be compensating for a lack of something else :)

Anyway traffic was kinda stop and go, and every time he accelerated, it was all or nothing. Must be nice to afford to be a lead foot.

One footed seagull

I went to Ralphs grocery store yesterday and saw our feathered friend dining on something. However he didn't look quite right. As I looked closer I saw that he was missing his right foot.

He seems to be getting along just fine and adapting. It is strange how he could lose his foot and not be harmed in any other way.

**Read This First**

This blog is mainly my rants and raves about anything and everything. I live in San Diego, hence the name the San Diego Report, however my postings could be about anything. Most postings will be photo heavy as I am not much into taking considerable amounts of time to compose stories and most people are not into taking the time to read said stories. Comments are always welcomed, good, bad, and ugly. Just keep them in good taste.
