Passed the Inspection

We passed the inspection and work is progressing nicely. However we asked the contractor about how much longer it will take and he said a couple of more months. It doesn't seem that it would take that much longer, maybe he is over estimating, but I don't know. I guess it will get done when it gets done.

The shower area is really interesting. When we have done showers we use cement backer board and then Redgard to waterproof everything. They used aquabar-b and metal lathe for the walls and hot mop for the shower pan. I am thinking they will still use some kind of other water proofing. Kinda old school but as long as it works I am happy.

Here are the latest pictures.

Plumbing and Electrical Roughed in and Hopefully the Inspection tomorrow

It seems I was a little over zealous in my previous post.  NOW all the plumbing and electrical are roughed in and it is time for the city inspector to come out and give his blessing that everything is up to code. Once that is done then I think they will begin to close the walls and another payment will be due.

They have installed the corner windows so it is slowly looking like a bedroom.  We will have two wall sconces in the bathroom on either side of the mirror and two canned ceiling lights, one over the main bathroom and one over the shower.  Probably more light than we need but at least it is there if we want it. The sconces  shoot light up and down, hopefully giving us some nice indirect light. I have really come to appreciate the softness of indirect lighting vice the harshness of direct.  We will also have one canned light in the closet and our new really long hallway.  To finish it off the bedroom will have a ceiling fan with a light.  The contractors original plan called for 4 canned lights in the bedroom but we thought that would be way too much since we plan to have bedside lighting as well.

One thing that is nice with this contractor is he really believes in having plenty of outlets. It really sucks to not have enough plug ins, am I right?

The roof is up and plumbing is roughed in

Stopped by today to check the progress and the roof is framed and the plumbing is roughed in. I am thinking that next week most of the rough framing will be complete and another payment will be due.

Framing continues

As "K" mentioned, things are really speeding up. The walls went up today and soon they will begin the plumbing and electrical. Of course soon another payment will be due :(

But then again the sooner it is done then the sooner we can move :)

Framing Begins

Framing started Tuesday, FINALLY!! And of course El NiƱo decides to finally show up this year. Since the large storm we had in early January the weather has been beautiful during the permit process. Once the work was ready to begin it decides to give us the moisture we really need. So I am torn between cursing the rain and being thankful for it.

Regardless the project is moving forward.

A sign of men at work.

New Vanity, the blue is protective film, the finish is gloss white. This is designed to be mounted on the wall with two front legs.  This is an IKEA piece, we are looking at going a little modern.

Where the wood is removed is the new bathroom and the remaining wood to the framing will be the closet.
