Palm Springs

This weekend we needed a break and decided to take a road trip to Palm Springs. Plus this month marks 21 years of marriage and it seemed like the thing to do. This was the second time that we have been there, the first was five years ago.

We stayed at the Renaissance Hotel which was near "downtown" and close to all the touristy stuff, namely restaurants and shopping.  If you have ever been to Palm Springs you know about the mountains that are really striking. They remind me of Hawaii, except these are brown instead of green. The Hotel was really close and I got some great pics.

We also "toured" (in other words we just walked in like we were staying there) a hotel, The Parker Hotel that was really amazing. It is surrounded by hedges and has all these pathways that lead to hammocks/fire-pits/Pétanque court/croquet lawn, etc... We also had a afternoon snack at one of the restaurants, "A" had coffee and a fancy Belgian waffle with bananas/blue berries and a creme brûlée topping. I had a smoothie and some of "A's" fancy Belgian waffle with bananas/blue berries and a creme brûlée topping. This set us back over $30. Did I mention that this place ain't cheap?

The first night we ate at the hotel restaurant which was really good, "A" had sea bass and I had salmon.  The second night we ate at a Japanese Robataki, I thought it was pretty good but "A" wasn't too impressed.

We also did some sightseeing, mostly looking for mid-century houses/architecture.  "A" did some shopping at a place called The Estate Sale Company. I have to say it was impressive! Their collection of furniture is all second hand/consigned. So nothing cookie cutter about it and the prices were extremely reasonable. "A" found two chairs for $100 and we were able to get them shipped for $80. They need to be reupholstered but still it was a good deal. However since they kept moving the delivery times around and they pissed me off I told them I wanted a discount and we ended up paying $50.

Wile E. Coyote wasn't too far behind this road runner.
