The fence is complete and the gates are mostly complete. Rich still has to complete the front gate but it is almost done. Then we need to stain the front gate, paint the fence and order the latch. The paint will be the same brown as the trim and the stain will hopefully match. We decided to stain the front gate since it is made out of redwood and it would be a shame to cover it up. .
Since the house is an art-deco Spanish style house we wanted to embrace the art-deco part. As you can see in the front gate photo we have the horizontal lines to go with the windows/light/front door entrance. The top of the gate is 8" taller than the 5' columns.
The side gate matches the fence gate
Because we were concerned with our neighbors and wanted to make sure that we did not cut off too much light on their side we only wanted to fence to be 6'. That required it to be stepped down towards the canyon because of the crown of the ground.
It turns out that they will still get plenty of light in the windows that face the fence, except maybe in the winter since they face south. The fence might block some of the light then.
We are very happy so far and cannot wait until Rich starts on the deck and patio roof.

The fence and gates look very nice!
I was also worrying about the sunshine for the neighbors,
but your explanation cleared it.
Now the backyard project will start.I'm expecting you'll
get beautiful backyard.
We are very excited!! especially having the roof over the deck. I want to put heaters in the ceiling so that when it cools down at night it will be warm on the patio.
